Energy weapons
The simplest weapons are the energy weapons. Energy weapons don’t require any ammunition, but generate a lot of heat. The basic energy weapons are the medium lasers and large lasers, but the real king of this type is the Particle Projector Cannon (PPC): huge damage and long range, but also massive heat.
- Medium and large lasers get a bonus to accuracy over other weapons (Small Lasers do as well, but they are classified as a Support weapon and thus are discussed on the appropriate page).
- The PPC is able to deal a moderate amount of stability damage upon impact. It also scrambles the target's sensors if the shot hits, applying a penalty to their accuracy for the next turn; this penalty doesn't stack from multiple PPC hits fired by the same unit, but will stack if multiple different units hit the same target with PPCs.

Medium laser[edit | edit source]
Medium Lasers are lightweight with respectable damage. Because of this, at least one can be found mounted on most units that cross the battlefield. Like all Lasers, Medium Lasers enjoy a baseline accuracy bonus over other weapons.

Medium pulse laser[edit | edit source]
An improvement upon standard Medium Lasers, Medium Pulse Lasers use pulses of light instead of a single beam. This results in better accuracy and damage output but with increased heat and weight. Like all Lasers, Medium Pulse Lasers enjoy a baseline accuracy bonus over other weapons.

An improvement upon standard Medium Lasers, Extended-Range Medium Lasers extend their effective range at the cost of considerable heat generation. Like all Lasers, ER Medium Lasers enjoy a baseline accuracy bonus over other weapons.

Particle Projector Cannons fire streams of energized lightning at their target that deal substantial damage and stability impact. However, this comes with intense heat generation and bulkiness. PPCs also generate a mild EM field that degrades the firing capability of their target (-1 to Accuracy for one turn).

Snub PPC[edit | edit source]
The Snub PPC is to a Particle Projector Cannon as a sawed-off shotgun is to a shotgun. Rediscovered by the Draconis Combine from a Star League concept that didn't take off at the time, this version of the PPC is slightly lighter than a standard PPC, but its energy discharge trails off considerably faster, leading to shorter range and reduced damage capacity over range.
